Tourism Seminar at NETC on November 21
A nationally recognized leader in community development will conduct a seminar on the campus of Northeastern Technical College in Cheraw to discuss tourism strategies that can promote economic development in Chesterfield County.
Becky Anderson, founding executive director of HandMade in America, will host the tourism and economic development seminar on November 21 from 9 am to 12 noon in the auditorium at Northeastern Technical College Cheraw. The seminar is free and is sponsored by the college, the Greater Cheraw Chamber of Commerce, the Pageland Chamber of Commerce, the Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce, Team Chesterfield, Cheraw, Inc., Chesterfield County Economic Development, and the Cheraw Jameson Inn.
Anderson has been a catalyst for community and economic development for more than twenty years. Leveraging an extensive network of policy makers, economist, academics, entrepreneurs and creative thinkers, she has led scores of successful community revitalization programs including HandMade in America, the development and marketing of regional trail guides, a landfill incubator, the National Blue Ridge Heritage Area and the HandMade House at the Ramble.
“Local and regional leaders, businesses, and entrepreneurs will benefit from the knowledge and experience that Becky Anderson will bring to Cheraw on November 21,” said Ron Bartley, president of Northeastern Technical College. “She has experience working with rural areas like ours and can help us to learn how to develop and market tourism programs and services to grow the local economy.”
Anderson will conduct two sessions. The first session will focus on identifying local tourism attractions and experiences, developing guides and driving tours and marketing approaches for heritage and cultural tourism. The second session will focus on preparing small town and rural communities for tourism by leveraging community renewal plans and partnerships.
The seminar is open to the public and is free but seating is limited. To reserve a seat call 921-6923.
